“But Jonah ran away from the Lord and headed for Tarshish.”
Jonah knew God’s voice. That was not his struggle. His struggle was agreement.
Scripture presents a man who resisted the assignment placed before him because obedience felt heavier than rebellion. Running became easier than surrender. Yet God did not let Jonah go.
The storm was mercy. The sea was mercy. The fish was mercy.
God will interrupt a man’s escape if the escape will destroy him. Jonah discovered that distance from God does not eliminate calling. It only delays submission.
The belly of the fish became a sacred space where pride dissolved and clarity returned. God does not demand perfection. He asks for willingness.
Jonah emerged humbled, not discarded. Broken, but aligned. Ready, because God preserved him even in rebellion.
Father, stop me when I run from Your direction. Interrupt my escape and draw my heart back to obedience. Give me the courage to walk where You are calling me.
