“They asked each other Were not our hearts burning within us while He talked with us on the road.”
The disciples did not recognize Jesus at first, yet His words ignited something inside them. Scripture shows that the presence of Christ often stirs the heart before the mind understands. Revelation begins in the burning — the stirring, the awakening, the quiet conviction.
God works internally long before He reveals Himself externally. A man becomes transformed when he pays attention to the fire within. Jesus teaches that the heart recognizes Him even when the eyes do not.
The road to Emmaus reminds us that God is present in conversations, in Scripture, in reflection, and in the slow unfolding of truth. The burning becomes the sign that God is near.
Father, awaken my heart to Your presence. Let Your words burn within me. Open my understanding and lead me deeper into Your truth.
