“We also glory in our sufferings because we know that suffering produces perseverance.”
Romans 5:3 NIV
Paul reframes suffering in a way that challenges every man’s instincts. Scripture teaches that suffering shapes character rather than destroys it. Perseverance is not learned in comfort.
It is learned in pressure. A man becomes strong when he does not run from difficulty but grows through it. God uses trials to produce what ease cannot—endurance, depth, maturity.
Suffering becomes the furnace where superficial faith melts away, leaving behind something pure and resilient. Paul does not glorify pain itself. He glorifies the transformation it produces.
A man shaped by perseverance becomes a man built for purpose.
Father, use my hardships to strengthen me. Build perseverance within my spirit. Work through every trial to form Your character in me.
