DAY 21 OF 365

Day 21

Verse
“When they had crossed Elijah said to Elisha Tell me what can I do for you before I am taken from you Let me inherit a double portion of your spirit Elisha replied.”
2 Kings 2:9 NIV
Story

Elisha followed Elijah with a devotion that Scripture rarely describes in men. He watched the prophet’s courage, his solitude, his obedience, and his silence. When Elijah finally asked what he desired, Elisha did not pursue status.

He pursued substance. A double portion of your spirit. Not Elijah’s position.

Elijah’s character. Elisha understood that calling is weight, not glory. Men often chase the visible, but God honors those who seek what cannot be seen.

The double portion was not ambition. It was surrender — a request to be shaped deeply enough to carry what Elijah carried. God allows men to witness the lives of those sent before them so they may draw from the wells of their strength, discipline, and faith.

Elisha’s request teaches us that a man’s future is shaped by what he values. The mantle fell on him because he stayed close, followed closely, and desired deeply. God forms men who hunger for His spirit more than His platform.

Prayer

Father, give me the desire to seek substance over recognition. Shape my heart to pursue Your character, not my own ambition. Grant me the strength to carry the calling You place upon me.
