“Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.”
Jesus repeats the command because human weakness repeats itself. Scripture captures the disciples sleeping when vigilance was required. Jesus teaches that temptation often strikes when a man is unfocused.
Watchfulness is awareness of spiritual danger. Prayer is dependence on divine strength. A man becomes fortified when both shape his life.
Jesus faced the same pressure yet responded with prayer, showing that strength comes from connection with the Father. The disciples fell because they trusted their intentions more than their need. Jesus shows that spiritual alertness prevents collapse.
A man learns that guarding his heart begins with guarding his attention.
Father, awaken my spirit. Protect me from complacency. Keep me watchful and anchored in prayer.
